These “scandals” are temporary. I know a zillion UM alums including my best friend. They couldn’t care less. People are able to compartmentalize sports from university. Did the Handicapping scandal affect UCLA? Does anyone really care about the scandal PC left behind at sc or all the winning.
More importantly, none of that stuff is gonna matter soon. The NCAA is going away in terms of football in the not too distant future.
I saw an interesting tweet from Dan Wolken yesterday
“ What they actually should do is form a league that takes football out of higher education, makes it fully professional, have licensing agreements to use the school names and logos and leave everything else alone.”
I happen to think it’s a great idea, but I still think you need to provide the kids and education because very few are gonna make the League.
