College sports is going to need a salary cap if they don’t want to create a “Power 5” of (teams rather than leagues) that have will to emerge with extremely deep pockets. The rest can just watch. When Arch Manning (who is only fourth in NIL valuation) makes more in NIL than Brock Purdy you can see this already beginning to happen. We’ll shortly have the college football equivalents of the pre-salary cap MLB teams that have the resources to have bigger payrolls than everyone else. And I do not expect UCLA to be in that group.
Even if a college salary cap is created, lots of luck enforcing it.
