You would have to avoid getting flagged. If the defense gets flagged in the last minute, I think there was something about the play clock now going to 40 seconds for the offense with the clock start on official's whistle.
Like anything, rules aren't perfect. This play just seemed to expose a potential flaw that hopefully they fix. Luckily Washington didn't lose the game or this really would have been bad.
