than winning in college, so I do not believe it makes a lot of sense to compare his pro experience with his college experience. Looking at his college time, Oregon was going well but was not yet a juggernaut when he took the reins, and the talent he inherited was not blue-chip at every position. I don't think you're wrong wondering if his ability to coach kids up is overrated, and there are indicators that he's not as good as advertised. Still, there is evidence to suggest he's very good and can work well with lower-rated recruits. Leach and Whittingham seem to have figured it out working with mediocre recruiting, and I have no reason to believe that Kelly isn't as good a coach as those two. I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt considering the problems we faced this year, especially on the O line and with a true freshman QB for much of the year.
