One thing Cronin does that I personally think can be a big draw for recruits is giving players the opportunity to isolate on offense and go to work. As you pointed out, we really haven’t seen much of that with Dailey during his time here. But we saw plenty of it with Jaime, Tyler, and Johnny. If I’m a recruit, especially a post player with a back-to-the-basket game, I can see the appeal of playing for a coach who is willing to put you in those situations. From my perspective, there aren’t a ton of coaches still doing that.
But I got a little off track. My original point was about Dailey and the USA 3-on-3 team. If anyone has watched him play in those games, one thing that really stands out is how successful he has been in those isolation situations. Obviously, 3-on-3 isn’t the same game as 5-on-5, and I’m sure some will point that out. Still, I think he has shown enough in those situations to warrant getting some looks at UCLA.
I’m just guessing here, but I have a feeling Cronin is going to feed him the ball a lot more this year.
