She just has too many God-given gifts. From what I’ve read, it’s actually pretty rare for rookies to come in and immediately get heavy minutes. Gabs and Kiki seem more like the exception than the norm. In Kiki’s case, being on an expansion team probably makes it easier for her to get a lot of PT right away. But it really depends on the situation — for example, even top overall pick Fudd is only averaging around 20 minutes a game, while Olivia Miles is averaging 31. Bigs also tend to need a little more time to adjust to the league.
That said, I have a lot of confidence that both Angela and Lauren can have long basketball careers if that’s what they want. It’s also worth noting that a lot of these players compete overseas during the offseason, where they’ve historically been able to make even more money than in the WNBA — or at least that used to be the case before the major pay increases this year. I remember reading about that during the whole Brittney Griner situation in Russia.
