There were six organizations that awarded a POY: The Sporting News, the USBWA, the AP, Naismith, NABC and Wooden Award.

Smith won AP and Naismith, Shawn Respert won Sporting News and NABC and O'Bannon won USBWA and Wooden.

So O'Bannon was tied for consensus POY. Good enough.
