COLUMBIA, Mo. — In an expected departure, Missouri men’s basketball guard Sebastian Mack will enter the transfer portal when it opens next month.
Mack, who has one year of eligibility remaining, announced his intent to enter the portal on Wednesday through the On3 recruiting service. He is the second Mizzou player to make public his plan to transfer away when the portal opens on April 7 after point guard Anthony Robinson II did so earlier in the week.
Mack’s lone season with MU hardly went as either he or the program expected. After playing in 77 games across two seasons at UCLA, he arrived in Columbia as an expected starter at shooting guard. Mack had never been much of a shooter with the Bruins, but the Tigers liked his ability to drive and get to the free-throw line.
After an inefficient start to the season, Mack lost his starting job in early December. By the time Southeastern Conference play rolled around, he’d been pulled from the rotation almost entirely.
Mack played just 28 minutes in SEC action and didn’t see the floor after Jan. 27. His fit or skill level was evidently not what Mizzou expected it to be, which is why his departure seemed to be a long time coming.
Mack and Robinson's exit gives the Tigers five open roster spots next season, almost all of which will need to go to rotation-caliber players just to maintain the talent level of a squad that finished 20-13 this past season and exited the NCAA Tournament in the first round.
