If we did want to fire him for cause, Cronin likely made it a lot easier. Statements like "The last thing I want to do is bring negative publicity to our school" and "I am the coach here and I need to make sure I don't do anything to embarrass this school and for that I apologize" are pretty much admissions that he embarrassed the University, which is the standard for a for cause dismissal in his contract. That having been said, I am guessing if we were going to fire him we would have done so already. I think what's more likely is that University counsel pointed him to the language in the contract and let him know he could be fired for this and will be in the future if something like this happens again. I also think Cronin's not an idiot and wouldn't have used language like that had he not already been told he wasn't going to get fired.
