Something a basketball coach does will not "damage the reputation" of the best public university in he country. Most people other than in places like this, don't give a "rat's ass" about college basketball.
How many parents, other than those of 5-star basketball plyers, will say "I'm not letting my kid go to UCLA because they have rude basketball coach?
