There is probably a good faith limitation on the University's discretion in that for cause clause. Even if not, UCLA's problem in trying to enforce it as you suggest is that they had no problem with Cronin's attitude or behavior until he started losing. Seems pretextual at this point to say his behavior is cause to cancel the contract.
