He's been coaching a long time and has never won big. Yes he's won a lot of games but that is largely a product of being pretty good for a long time at a lower tier program, and even though he has done his best to make UCLA a lower tier program, that run of being slightly better than decent seems to have come to an end. To my mind, the best coaches of any generation are the ones that were exceptionally good for that period of time. Aside from a few weeks during his final four run at UCLA, which for many reasons, including it being a Covid year, is looking more and more like a fluke anomaly, Cronin has never been exceptional.
