He said it right out of the gate: we couldn’t stop them down low. And he’s right — it was a defensive issue. I actually thought he changed Tracy's question to what he wanted to talk about which was right on. Williams gave us something, so why not put him back in? I was wondering the same thing. He said it was the ankle. I think he knew others would be questioning it.
The follow-up question should have been about Jamerson. Why not give him an opportunity in the second half? I understand being frustrated by the careless fouls, but we all knew Tyler wasn’t going to get it done at the five. That’s not a this-year problem. It doesn’t matter how good we are offensively if teams are scoring at will in the paint.I think Cronin let his emotions get the best of him. Let Jamerson get his 5 fouls. Who knows maybe he settles into the game.
The other part that puzzled me was when he said, “How many teams have two guys like that?” Really, Mick? You’re rolling out essentially the same frontcourt as last year. Teams don’t need two guys against us. Do you not remember what Dawson Garcia did to you last season? Thirty-two. And TKR? Twenty-nine. This isn’t a new issue. And just wait until he sees Mara and Yaxel.
