I think you make some good points, ej—most of which I agree with. And yes, some are certainly exaggerating Cronin’s deficiencies. But there’s still a bottom line in this business, and for whatever reason, Cronin hasn’t been able to land high-end recruits lately. Maybe it’s because he prioritizes experienced transfers, and that’s fine—whatever works. But we shouldn’t ignore the facts:
He didn’t bring in high-end recruits last year.
It’s not looking like he’ll land high-end recruits this year.
He lost some key pieces he probably should’ve kept.
To be fair, there are positives:
He brought back a strong nucleus.
He added some solid pieces from the portal.
He’s making progress on the NIL front.
Still, based on what we’re seeing on the court, I think it’s fair to start raising an eyebrow about whether he can bring in the caliber of players needed to keep us competitive on the national stage.
Do you think we have a real chance to win the conference this year? Do you see a path to a national championship? And what about next year—does it look like we’re building toward that level? I don’t know about the rest of the board, but I’m a little concerned.
I'm willing to see how it plays out. I 'm willing to see if he can build a competitive team on the fly in one season, because as we know, most of these pieces won't be back next. But to say that we shouldn't be concerned, I think is the opposite extreme of some the post on here.
