Players and coaches often come to an impasse on various stuff. This is usually the main thing - coach is using me the wrong way. Nobody is wrong in these situations. As a player Mara has the right to question his coaching and move on if he thinks that's what's called for. As a coach Cronin has the right to give his vision direction and coach his team the way he thinks is best for all.
IMO Cronin was making Mara a better player. He was also not utilizing Mara to the fullest extent IMO. Mara was asked to do things that were difficult for him and probably frustrating. With some patience on Mara's part and some flexibility on Cronin's part this may have worked.
We have no idea what was happening behind closed doors so it's impossible to truly assess the dynamic that was going on. From my distant vantage point all I can say is that both parties were and are doing what they think is best - best for themselves, and in the case of Cronin, the best for Mara and the bet for the team as well. As I've stated before, I thought Cronin should have bent his ways and gone all in with Mara, but what do I know. I do see that Mara under Cronin's tutelage was getting better as a well rounded player.
It' really too bad this happened but it's not uncommon. In fact it happens a lot in my experience. Oh well, time to move on. We'll see how all this works out. Hopefully it turns out well for everyone.
