My theory is also that they were trying to get him an injury redshirt season by shutting him down midway through the season. That's why he didn't play in any games the latter part of the year. About the time of his last game, he was listed as "questionable" indicating some sort of injury.
The NCAA rule on injury redshirts is if they suffer a season-ending injury before the halfway point of the season and haven't played in more than 30% of the team's games.
But he played 11 games which is 32% of the team's 34 games and his last game was against Oregon 1/30, the 22nd game of the season.
