Buddy of mine was telling me his recollection of the 73/74 Bruins. He stated that it was common knowledge that the squad was one where Wooden let go of the reins in light of consistent conflict with Walton. While I did attend games in the last couple years before Wooden's retirement, I was too young to have much recollection of anything.
But I found the story to be quite remarkable and truly doubted it. However, my older friend was telling me it was pretty well known of the conflicts between Walton and Wooden, and that by Walton's senior year, Wooden had had enough and allowed Walton the freedom to play the game how he wanted to (or something to that effect). He stated that this was a key reason for the team's ultimate downfall -- namely with losing to NC St., 88 game win streak ending, and the "lost weekend" in Oregon.
Anyway, this is not meant to cause a flame war on Wooden, Walton, or the team. I'm just wanting to know if there is even a shred of truth to this story.
