I agree with everything - yes, everything - you have written in your well supported post. But...
That gets us past the first sentence in my post. Assuming that CSA will be gone at the end of the upcoming season - as I have heard from a well-connected person - we must revert to the inevitable question of who will take his place because this is where most such posts bemoaning CSA tend to end.
Do we want a super big name coach - who is probably the biggest thing for hundreds of miles around in his cloistered college community - and is probably loathe to leave because he is already a BIG RICH guy and doesn't need to come to Westwood because he doesn't want to build a new team into his already-existing hometown machine.
Do we want a something less than a big, big name with a very good record and is either improving or maxxed out at his current school and may also be loathe to leave to try to build UCLA into what he has now.
Do we want a young good name but who has never built a several year machine?
The history of UCLA coaches since you-know-who has been an abomination with only Brown, Howland and (maybe) Alford fitting the bill of someone I would consider as a very good pick but, alas, I am way too old to spend too much time and effort worrying about it. All I want is a respected name and I leave it to the those who know much more about it than I do to provide that name but up to now their silence has been deafening.
