Even after losing Tyger, Shareef, and O - out team still has talent. We lost three contributors but we did not lose our three best players. UCLA is in the enviable position of being able to recruit great players up and down the roster.
Even with the losses, if Alford is a good coach he will find a way to win with the players on the roster. If that means a commitment to D instead of O (due to our problem at PG) then that is what he should do.
Last year's team list three freshmen - it sucked - but Alford couldn't coach his way into securing a spot in the field of 64. That is a failure. He had all year to plan around what he had.
A similar scenario has happened this year. Can Alford see what he has left and put a strategy together that maximizes the results from this group? Even with the losses, I bet 8 or 9 teams in the Pac would switch rosters with us tomorrow.
It's gotten so bad with Alford that making the tournament is what we consider a successful year now - SAD!
