I have never been an Alford fan; I wanted one of the big names to replace Ben but when that didn't happen and the boards I believe unfairly clusterfked him, I defended him as deserving a chance to prove himself. The anti's have never let up and it strikes me as very odd that when we are on the cusp of what might be a very good season, the antis are more anti than ever.
I believe that this should be a make or break season for him: he apparently has very good talent and a full bench and must use that bench as inspiration for the starters to play up to their alleged talent.
One thing is holding me back from advocating for his firing if he doesn't have a better run in the tourney than he has before and that is absolute uncertainty as to his potential replacement. A firing without a big name replacement in Dan's pocket will be asking for trouble.
You ask if CSA's record is indicative of the best UCLA basketball can be? Obviously it is not and I say that because I KNOW the best UCLA ball can be because I was a small part of the Golden Age. But the game has changed in so many ways since then that merely "competing" is not good enough; unless we can pose a credible challenge to the acknowledged Big Boys in a very short time, he should go and the next guy better show his mettle quickly or he should go too.
