I remain curious about how much the portal has given coaches leverage. I'm not suggesting he should do this, I'm not suggesting he doesn't. But, if we've got top player landed, but no scholarship, can Mick just say "sorry, player X, your scholarship is not being renewed. Here are the portal papers"?
I'm on the fence about that now. But, it seems like what is going on. As has been referenced, so many players in the portal never play again. If it ever came to the universities having to directly pay the players, then I'd absolutely be for it.
Maybe now, the coaches are telling players you'd be better off leaving as you won't get playing time, and maybe the player could pull a Henry Steele and stick it out? But, if the Uni is paying, they should be able to fire non-performers, flat out.
