The rich will get richer. But, I can't see a justification to tethering a person to a school where they don't want to be. This may be the young person's only chance to make money off of a skill set that is making other people tons of money.
It may, overall, damage the game. But it will, overall, benefit 100's of college basketball players each year. The flipside is that with so many players who land in the portal never playing again .... I think it's likely that coaches are kicking non-performers off the team. Cronin said as much this year. He said the end of the season was an audition for who wanted to be on the team next season. And, I'm ok with that. The player advocates want it to be a business. It is a business.
As I've said before, the deadline for declaring for the draft should be before the portal opens.
