Graduate student Matt Becht (Vienna, Va.) of the Southern New Hampshire University men's basketball team earned National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) East All-District First Team honors Monday.

Becht, who was a First Team choice last season, as well, is the first Penmen to earn All-District honors in back-to-back seasons since Chris Walters was a Second Teamer in 2017 and a First Teamer in 2018. Becht, who was also a Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) East All-Region First Team and NE10 All-Conference First Team selection this season, has started all 34 games for SNHU, netting 16.4 points on 43.9 percent (175-399) shooting from the field, including 45.2 percent (126-279) from behind the arc, and 89.9 percent (90-89) from the stripe. He is also averaging 3.9 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.1 steals per contest. Becht leads the nation in 3-pointers made and is eighth in 3-point field goal percentage, while also leading the region in made 3s and free throw percentage, placing fourth in 3-point field goal percentage, 17th in field goals made and 19th in scoring. In the NE10, in addition to leading in 3s made and free throw percentage, Becht places first in 3-point field goal percentage, 12th in scoring and made field goals, 19th in assists and 22nd in steals.

Becht, who scored the 1,000th point of his career in an 81-77 defeat at Pace University back on Jan. 6, broke the program's single-season list for 3-pointers made of 112, set by Sotirios Karapostolou in 2002-03. Becht has scored in double figures 28 times this season and reached 20 points on 10 occasions. He has splashed four or more 3-pointers in 17 games, including March 6 when he nailed a career-high eight triples and dropped 33 points in a 97-65 NE10 Championship semifinal win at Saint Michael's College.
