Of course we're still recruiting 5 stars but it actually does IMO look like CSA has changed his approach a bit. First off it's being said by recruiting folks that we're not really recruiting Cassius Stanley that hard anymore. The same people who complain CSA chases after 5 stars too much are mad he's not going harder after Stanley but I look at it as I think the kid is overrated, I think his dad wants him at SC, and I think CSA has just decided it's not worth the effort it will take to stay in the recruitment when you can spend that time on others.
The 3 kids we have commitments from in 19 are ALL signs of a shift. Sherfield from all accounts was mainly a Broussard recruitment, that's new, Grace did most of the recruiting. It appears IMO that both Kyman and Jacquez are more of Edney commits, not Grace(who's of course gone). Jacquez plays for an AAU team run by a neighborhood friend of Edney's growing up, and the strength and conditioning guy for that AAU program is Edney's former UCLA teammate, Kris Johnson.
Kymab is a UCLA legacy kid and from what I've heard Edney was one of the keys in the recruitment.
So all 3 of those kids are representing change because it appears Grace played little role in getting any of them close to committing.
The 5 star kid I want the most in that class is Josh Green, and we're still recruiting him but it appears he's getting involved with "the big boys" like Duke, Kansas and Kentucky and again we may be backing off because we don't think we're getting him. We appear to have already backed off Mannion some because we think he wants to go to Arizona.
So right or wrong it looks to me like Alford is calling recruitments earlier now and moving on.
