Alabama is normally a very good 3 point shooting team

shooting 37% as a team. With 4 volume 3 point shooters, Sears 43%, Wrightsell 44%, Griffin 39% and Walters 39%, why wouldn't they shoot a lot of threes (they average 30 threes a game with near 1100 taken in their 36 games this year) Of course, they will have some cold games but it's those threes that have carried them this far. In their 11 losses, as a team they have only shot 27% from beyond the arc. So they know that to win, they have to be hot from beyond the arc. But that wide open "run and gun" style is the way Nate Oats coaches.

Another problem they have that hurts when they are not hot from the three is not so much scoring (they average 90 PPG) but their defense (or just the wide open style they play). Their opponents average a little over 80 points and in games they have lost, several of the opponents have scored over 100, 90 and high 80s in those wins. But even when they shot over 40% from the three (19 for 46 in their 92 to 86 loss to Purdue), they gave up 92 points.

But one thing I like about Alabama. They play an exciting brand of ball with a lot of scoring---by both teams. When they are extremely hot from the three, they can be a load for any team out there.
