i think the Pac-12 was a bit embarrassed by the number of teams it got in whereas the Mountain West earned six bids but - aside from Arizona - most of those teams hit their ceilings just qualifying. They earned them. But once into the tournament, the quality of your opposition elevates and the teams the Pac-12 got in certainly acquitted themselves better than the MWC teams. Just the levels they were at imo.
The MWC teams beat one another through the season because they were pretty closely matched (among the better teams anyway) - once they hit the tournament that was the level of all the teams, that or better. As I said, only Arizona from both conferences seems to me to have much of a chance of dealing with the country's outstanding teams.
