I'm surprised that the Bruins are interested in Reed

I've watched him for 2 years at Michigan and he has improved somewhat from his freshman year but not a great amount. After watching his play in 50+ games in two years, I believe he would be ok as a backup to Bona if Bona stays (much better than Nwuba). And as a junior next year, it's possible he could make significant improvements under Cronin's and his staff's coaching and evolve into a highly impactful center. He is certainly big enough at 6'10, 265 lbs but not overly athletic or quick and pretty much limited to scoring only near the hoop, similar to Bona. One big negative, he's a very poor free throw shooter.

That being said, and even though he was a starter this year at Michigan as a result of Dickinson leaving, I can't see him as an immediate and adequate replacement for Bona if Bona leaves. The Rutgers guy would be a much better get for the Bruins, as an immediate replacement for Bona, IMO. But it's a crapshoot at this point and I suppose anyone the Bruins are able to bring in will help to some extent.
