The numbers may be equal but the type of fouls called

differ from conference to conference. Based on what I've observed over the past few years, they call a lot more ticky tack fouls in the PAC 12 than they do in the BIG. I watch both conferences pretty much equally and the BIG is generally allowed to play a more physical game and they normally let the light stuff play on and only call the hard or excessive contact fouls most of the time. That's the impression I get from watching many of both conferences games.

My guess is that Bona, with his normal style of play, would foul less in the BIG. A lot of the stuff Bona gets called for in the PAC 12 are very light touch "ticky tack" things that doesn't impact play. They pretty much let those type of things "play on" in the BIG. I'm not saying that a few officials don't occasionally call "some" ticky tack stuff in the BIG, but it doesn't happen as as much as in the PAC 12 from what I've observed.
