Thanks for the heads-up on a very interesting and entertaining article. I enjoyed the read very much.
Much of what was written I had already known about, but the main topic of Wilt's time in D.C. to play against Baylor I didn't know about. Nowadays it is difficult for kids to fly under the radar, but back then due to a lot of factors it was quite common. Of course, once Baylor got to Seattle and took them to the finals everyone knew about him. By all rights he should have been as well known as Chamberlain coming out of high school and it's good, for many reasons, we are no longer in those times. I remember in the sixties (can't remember the exact year(s) without looking it up) the Bruins playing in the regionals against a good Seattle team still riding some success on their D.C. connections.
Like some of the people in the article I have my minor brushes with fame as I played against great players in my humble career as a player and coached against some well known names as well. Those kind of things are carried with us with fondness all our lives and always fun to read about others' experiences.
