Remember, the main thrust of Dr. Bruin's argument is that the Lakers intend to take Ball, not so much that they are messing with Boston.
So, in a way, both of us could be right:
What if the Lakers make a deal with Phoenix? Fox at 2 for Ball at 4 and either Jackson or Sumner at 32?
The Lakers thus get two potential all-star guards for the price of one.
So, yes, the Lakers do intend to take Ball. But it's to rip off someone below them, rather than to scare the Celtics off.
Philly wants Josh Jackson. The Lakers have now worked Jackson out twice, but Ball only once. Will Philly trade Ball at 3 and one of Sumner of (Frank) Jackson at 36 for Jackson at 2? Again, the Lakers get potentially two all-star guards for the price of one.
See? This is fun!
