D. Martin was highly recruited--Duke and others offered, but Harrick got him. Darrick got a good run at UCLA, but I don't think he was as quick as all that, which became apparent when Tyus Edney took over. I recall that the two of them played in the same backcourt for a time, or on and off, but that was a pretty tiny backcourt, and that Harrick ultimately went with Tyus. Martin came off the bench. I also recall that Martin's parents did not accompany him onto the court to be honored on Seniors' Day, b/c they were angry at Harrick. But it was obvious to any objective observer that Tyus was the far better pg. And then you have the postscript--Tyus spending a brief time in the NBA, while Darrick Martin had a prolonged NBA career. Interesting.
